Hi, I'm Gully. I teach piano lessons in both classical and jazz styles, having trained in each.
Working across both traditions means I can teach solid technique and theory alongside a more relaxed, improvisational side — so lessons can lean into whichever suits you, or blend both.
The two traditions demand different things — precision and control on one side, improvisation and harmonic fluency on the other — and teaching across both means I can meet a student wherever their interest lies.
As a jazz pianist, I perform regularly in live settings, including at Wimborne Minster, other churches, and school events. That performing background is part of what I bring to lessons: an understanding of technique that goes beyond the page, built through actual playing rather than theory alone.
My teaching is individual and goal-focused. Lessons are tailored to the student, whether that means building solid fundamentals, improving technique, developing improvisation, or preparing for performances or exams. I prioritise clear progress and musical understanding over rigid methods.
My prices are as follows: £30 per hour, and £20 per half hour
I teach students of all ages and levels, from beginners to more advanced players. Lessons are structured, in person or online, relaxed, and focused on long-term development.
