I’m Gully, a pianist with experience in both classical and jazz performance, trained across two distinct musical traditions. Working within both styles has given me a strong grounding in technique, theory, and musical flexibility, which informs how I teach and perform. I’ve performed in a range of formal settings, including Wimborne Minster, other churches, and school events, playing both classical repertoire and jazz-based material. These settings have shaped my approach to performance and musicianship, particularly in terms of clarity, confidence, and stylistic awareness.
My teaching is individual and goal-focused. Lessons are tailored to the student, whether that means building solid fundamentals, improving technique, developing improvisation, or preparing for performances or exams. I prioritise clear progress and musical understanding over rigid methods.
My prices are as follows: £25 per hour, and £20 per half hour
I teach students of all ages and levels, from beginners to more advanced players. Lessons are structured, relaxed, and focused on long-term development.

I’m a student of Gully’s and I truly recommend. He’s been teaching me for a while now and I’m really impressed. I always walk away very happy after the lesson and feel I have learnt a lot. A lovely guy and a wonderful teacher!

Gully is a fantastic piano tutor.
He has been teaching my 8-year-old son, Will, and has truly inspired his love of the piano. Gully is always polite, patient, and brings a lovely sense of fun to lessons—Will genuinely looks forward to them each week.
He started slowly with half-hour sessions, then gradually built up to an hour as Will’s confidence and ability grew. I especially appreciate how he finds accessible versions of pieces Will wants to play, which keeps him engaged and excited.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gully—he’s a wonderful teacher and we’re so happy to have him guiding Will’s musical journey.
Featured Piano Record of the Week:
Each week, I highlight a different piano record to introduce students to the huge range of music the piano can create; from blues and jazz to classical and beyond. The aim is to make piano music feel more accessible, relatable, and exciting, while helping students discover new styles, sounds, and artists that might inspire their own playing. 🎹
On repeat this week:
Blues from the Gutter - Champion Jack Dupree
Blues from the Gutter is the first album by blues musician Champion Jack Dupree.
Dupree (1909–1992) was a New Orleans–born blues and boogie-woogie pianist and singer, known for his raw barrelhouse piano style and wry, streetwise lyrics. A former professional boxer (hence “Champion”), he recorded influential blues from the 1940s onward, including this classic Blues from the Gutter (1958), and later settled in Europe, where he became a key figure in the transatlantic blues scene.
